So here’s little sweet treat to get your pulses racing. My cheats trifle. Or, as it is more affectionately known amongst my family, “A heart attack in a bowl”. So called because of all the delicious but slightly devilish ingredients which not only massage your sweet tooth, but do a pretty good job at furring up the old coronary arteries when enjoyed too often!
Feast your eyes on this…
Doesn’t it look delicious? It is, I can promise you. And what is even more splendid about this little lovely is that you can whip it up and impress your guests in little under 5 minutes.
For the trifle you will need:
A glass bowl
Turkish Delight – rose and Lemon for variety
Swiss roll
Fresh Custard – as much as you like depending on the size of your bowl
Fresh cream or if you prefer Dream Topping
Milk ( If using Dream Topping)
Any fruit of your choice, Cherries, Raspberries and Strawberries work well
Chocolate – any you can grate or crumble on top
Start with your clean glass bowl. Chop up your Turkish Delight and stick it, sticky side as opposed to powdered side, to the glass bowl. When you have spread enough around, chuck the rest in the bowl for good measure. Do exactly the same with your swiss roll.
Once you’ve put all of your Turkish delight and swiss roll into the bow, which essentially replaces the traditional jelly and sponge, you can add your pots of Fresh Custard. Just pour it all over and cover all the ingredients.
It doesn’t need to look pretty, the beauty is in the tasting.
Now, whip up your cream if your are using fresh cream. Alternatively you could use dream topping, a lot sweeter but a great substitute, if like me you don’t quite have enough cream to go the distance. Once whipped into soft peaks, spread atop your custard. Resist the urge to dunk your face in your heavenly creation, at least for a few moments more!
For propriety we should include a little fruit (if we must!), so anything you like or have hanging around. I had a punnet of cherries going and so put a few on top. I dusted them with a little icing sugar and a crumbling of chocolate flake.
Voila!
It really does taste as good as it looks.
One more for the people at the back.
I took this little beauty along to my sisters Baby Shower this weekend. It was well received as you’d expect. Calories don’t count at Baby Showers, or Birthday’s or Christmas or any other there festivities. So I heard.
I am a hopeless cook and so I love anything that can be whipped up quickly and is much more then the sum of it’s parts. My Cheats Trifle hits the mark every time.
What’s your party trick in the kitchen? (No I didn’t mean that cheeky!!!)
Enjoy!
