If you’ve been following me on social media recently you’d be excused for thinking you’d accidentally followed a grumpy old man. One who is always moaning about the British weather and the dreaded onset of winter; #guilty.
Autumn marks the start of colder, darker days which I’m not as you might have guessed, overly enthused about. You may remember my gripes about this last year in this post. Fear not dear reader, nothing has changed. I’m immovable on my disdain for cold wet and dark weather. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love a flurry of the white stuff and I don’t grimace at a cold but bright crisp day, this is the stuff of winter dreams. But here in the South of England, we just seem to get, well, bland weather.
I dream of wrapping up in a chunky knit scarf and cashmere coat, but the reality is I’d melt before I got 100 yards from the house. Literally melt, wicked witch of the west style! Its simply just not cold enough to embrace all of the romantic fashion notions that Instagram and Pinterest promise as Autumn gives way to Winter. Sorry I digress, get me talking about the weather and I’m off!
The truth is, I’m just as keen as the next blogger to embrace autumn fashion, pumpkin spiced lattes, Hygge, and any excuse to revamp my entire makeup drawer, but when it comes to updating my wardrobe, this change in season is much less welcome and I’m demonstrably lacking in enthusiasm. NB: I’m sat here typing this post in linen. I’m cold, but determined.
So, what I’m getting around to speaking to you all about is what I like to call my mini winter rebellion. You see I have decided that although it may be dark and gloomy outside, things are going to be decidedly brighter in my closet. In an effort to prolong the warmth of a far too fleeting summer, I’m going to embrace lighter, brighter toned fabrics and rebel against the classic colours that usually make an appearance this time of year.
Pumpkin orange, autumn leaf green and winter berry purples are all being given a wide berth this season; things are decidedly less autumnal, but every bit as elegant and chic.
I’m going to try embracing a pale but interesting palette this season. White, light grey, taupe, and dusty pink.
I’ve scoured images all over the inter-web and Pinterest (are you following me over there) and have come up with these images which speak far more eloquently about my quest to rebel against the standard uniform of Autumn, reds, rusts, greens and purples, in favour of a softer, feminine but equally cosy alternative palette.
All White Now
The Cream Dream
Taupe is Dope
Winter Blues
Prettier in Pink
50 Shades of Grey
Caveat * I’ll still be wearing black. I’ll stop wearing black when they make a darker colour!
So building on my inspiration board on Pinterest here’s a sneak peak at the colours and textures I’ll be living in this season and a few delights I’ll be investing in for sure.
