I seem to have found my happy place. The only problem is it’s 5437 air miles away. Humph. That’s the only trouble with holidays and happy places, unless you’re there you’re probably not feeling, well happy! Alas the one great comfort is that you have the happy memory of said place and as some wise person once said, it is better to collect memories then it is to collect things. This is true. Once I have given myself a good talking to and have emerged from my melancholy I am able to feel a sort of warmth in the pit of my stomach. I begin to feel the sides of my mouth creep upwards in a sort of half-smile. My brain begins to call images to mind, sounds, smells, sights and faces, and suddenly I am transported. I am back in my Happy Place, I remember all the details in Technicolor and I feel at ease. You see, memories are wonderful things, the good ones have a habit of growing in energy and potency as time goes by. Our nostalgia for ‘the good old days” seems to have a helping hand in turning these good memories into great memories. And what a good thing that is. Isn’t it a wonderful fortune that our brains cannot tell the difference between a memory and current reality,so all the while you are replaying the lovely memories in your head your body and soul are getting a healthy dose of good vibes.
Life all too often can be tricky at best and hideous at worst. Few of us are fortunate enough to truly live our truth, and so finding your happy place is all the more important.
For me California is my happy place. I was lucky enough to visit last year. My husband and I spent 2 weeks driving from LA up the Pacific Coast Highway. We made many stops along the route; Malibu, Santa Barbara, Monterrey, San Fransisco and Morro Bay. We even ventured East to Lake Tahoe where we spent 4 days Skiing at Heavenly. It really was the trip of a lifetime for us both. As a Sagittarius I can;t get enough of travel and adventure. This trip was enough to satiate my appetite…for a little while.
California has so much to see and do, it is to me, Heaven on Earth. So when I find myself feeling miserable, usually on a turkey Wednesday afternoon, I call to mind the sights, the smells and the feel of California, and this is always enough to shake me from my funk.
So where’s your happy place? Where do you escape to when life gets hectic? Share your thoughts and inspire others. Happy Dreaming 🙂
