Golden Autumn Beach Breakfast

Eating toast at the beach in a yellow coat

The Autumn has so far been golden and glorious. We decided to make the most of a particularly lovely Sunday and head to the ocean for a golden autumn beach breakfast.

Dorset is awash with glorious spots to have a nibble; breakfast, brunch lunch or dinner. Take your pick!

We donned our warmest Sowesters and Seasalt coats (you can find my particularly fab coat here) and found ourselves a spot at the Middle Beach Cafe. A quaint cafe along the Studland Bay. No Avo on toast here, just a good old fashioned ‘Full English’!

Make your way down a well laid track from the middle beach car park, just a few hundred yards. It’s well signed and easy to find.

The smell of the ocean hits you before the bacon aroma does. And then of course you are met with the view.

Breakfast with a side of Heaven

The Cafe is very quaint and is in desperate need of a lick of paint. However that is what makes it so endearing. There has been no hostile buyout, no city slicker takeover, no on-brand interiors overhaul, this place is as authentic as the day it opened. Take it or leave it ( do take it, it’s definitely worth it).

We found our spot and ordered our breakfasts. The choices are large or huge! There’s a few other options such as bacon rolls, sausage sandwiches, you know, the essentials. The coffee comes song and the bacon crispy. What more could you ask for.

Service is efficient and friendly. Take cash, no PDQ’s here.

Naturally we both had eye’s bigger then our bellies and ordered too much food. We started with a round of coffees and some toast and jam, whilst we waited for our full english to be served. We didn’t have to wait long. Soon our plates arrived overflowing with a bounty of breakfast goodies…

I ordered the regular breakfast, which as you can see is pretty large. I opted for friend bread. Because why not?

He went for the large…of course

We took a deep breath and got to work.

We were in it for the long haul, luckily the view was stunning and we had some great company.

Word must have spread that leftovers were aplenty at this hot spot.

I briefly considered defeat…but I’m not a quitter!

considering eating another slice of toast

I’ve heard it said that anything more then a mouthful is considered a waste…

I gave this a good thinking over but thought to myself, how do you explain big boobs then?!

Once we finally finished our breakfasts we decided to take a stroll over to Old Harry Rocks.

Old Harry Rocks is a beautiful rock formation located at Handfast point, a beautiful area where the coast meets the ocean in a most dramatic fashion. The view is a surreal but honest reminder of the complexity, strength and sheer beauty of nature.

The rocks are named after and infamous Pirate – Harry Paye. Dorset has a history steeped in tales of pirates and their contraband. Tunnels and passageways are forged into the rocks and hidden from plain view, small secluded coves and sheltered bays all provided an ideal spot to smuggle goods ashore. Some say there is still treasure to be found. But I thin it has been, the view is the real treasure.

With our lungs full of sea air and our minds full of wonder, we headed back inland. There are number of private homes and National Trust cottages dotted along the coast path walk. We stumbled upon one generous soul, sporting a good old fashioned honesty box outside their chocolate box cottage.

I set my sights on a bunch of white fluffy Hydrangeas. Because the climate is so temperate here on the South Coast, and particularly here in Studland, oftend famed for having it’s own microclimate, flowers are still producing abundant blooms. The Hydrangeas were a particular treat as these are one of my favourite flowers ( don’t tell the Roses, Peonies and Delphiniums though!)

I scooped up an armful and parted with £2.50. Can you believe it?! You can rarely buy a single stem for that these days.

Pleased as punch we made our way back, stopping every now and then to enjoy the view and rest our tired feet.

We made our way back on the ferry, spotting a few familiar but quirky sights along the way.

This phone box in the sand dunes never fails to make me smile.

Once home I plunged my beautiful flowers into water, then let the sea air work her magic on me, slipping into a deep and dream filled sleep.

All in all another beautiful day beside the seaside, beside the sea.
