If you’re longing for the sun drenched coast of Italy in these cold winter months you could always raid your piggy bank and head for the amalfi coast. But for the more budget restricted amongst us, we can grab a slice of Naples right here in good old Blighty.
Rossopomodro is a delightful pizza chain gracing mainland Europe and luckily and much more conveniently for us, London’s borough of Camden and Westminster. With headquarters in Naples this pizzeria holds onto its authentic providence. Pizza is made to time honoured traditional recipes beginning with fabulously light and tasty dough that is proofed for hours (we’re talking at least 24 here) to ensure it is just like “mamma used to make”
We stumbled across Rosso on our recent trip to London and I’m delighted to say it was a very pleasant find.
If like me, you love cooked dough with lashings of cooked cheese atop, you’re going to love this place. Certainly the most delicious Pizza I have tasted. As the strap line says, ” the best Pizza this side of Naples”. They’re not wrong.
Mr Am, rather righteously, went for a whole-wheat pizza base and had the Bresaolina, topped with buffalo ricotta, herbs, beef bresaola, cherry tomatoes and tomato sauce.
I on the other hand was less reserved and went all in. When in Rome…or something to that effect.
Behold the Fru Fru Dop. Basically 3 pizza’s in one. This Pizza was designed for Sagittarius everywhere. Never agin do you have to worry about your complete inability to make a decision dear sagittarius. And to all fellow food envy brethren, I’ve got you covered.
This pizza covered all bases (no pun intended). Sensationally light dough topped with…
Section 1- Mozzarella, yellow datterini tomatoes from Battipaglia and spicy spianata
Section 2 – Smoked mozzarella, ricotta and Neapolitan salami
Section 3- Smoked mozzarella, Neapolitan sausage and friarielli
It was heavenly. I’d like to say I didn’t manage to finish it, but I did. Every last bite.
We had a green salad just to show willing, I’d say not to bother as it was;t anything to write home ( or blog ) about. Save every last inch of space for the pizza. It is after all what this place is famous for. And rightly so.
The decor is simple and comfortable. Tables are quite close together and there is something decidedly Italian about the bustle of the place and rubbing elbows with your neighbour.
Just look at that Pizza Oven!
You’ll find the one we visited on Monmouth Street just off Seven Dials and on the way to Covent Garden.
If you should find yourself in the vicinity of Monmouth street and in need of sustenance, do give this Pizzeria a try. I’m sure you’ll not be disappointed.
Ciao
