I recently had the good fortune to be invited to dinner at the delightful Greyhound inn at Corfe Castle.
The Greyhound Inn is a 14th Century coaching inn which is nestled beneath the imposing ruins of Corfe Castle here in Dorset.
Built in the local stone and every inch “chocolate box” pretty, the inn has been at the heart of this Dorset town for many years.
We arrived on a very cold December evening and walked to the inn through the cheerfully lit town square.
The cobbled streets and stone buildings are like a scene from Harry Potter and conjur up all sorts of magic and merriment. We stopped to take a few pictures and then raced in to escape the cold.
The inn is welcoming warm and cheerful. We were greeted by the team and shown to our cosy table.
We perused the menu for a while and finally settled on our choices; Potato and leek soup for him and Asian style pork for me. Where possible food is locally sourced and only the best makes the cut.
Our starters arrived quickly and beautifully presented.
The food was flavoursome and really quite delicious. Portions were incredibly generous too!
For our main course our choices were the pie of the day (chicken and leek) and the Four hour slow braised pork belly.
Again our courses arrived quickly and were incredibly tasty. The epitome of winter warmers.
This time we were beaten by the portion sizes but with full tummy’s and smiles on our faces, we both agreed we had just enough space to fit a pudding.
We decided to share the Churros with cinnamon sugar and chocolate sauce, which in short, were absolutely devine. Surprisingly we found the space to polish these off.
We sat and digested whilst soaking up the lovely atmosphere of the inn the low thrum of chatter and laughter amongst patrons was very cheering.
This delightful inn has a wonderful menu with something to suit all taste buds.
There are options for vegans, vegetarians and those with special dietary requirements such as gluten free. Everyone is catered for, even your K-9 companions! If fact, they have their own special menu options!
The inn has lots going on throughout December such as tribute nights, quiz events and on Fridays they have 2-4-1 cocktails.
Dorset has lots of lovely places to visit, but this delightful venu definitely needs to be at the top of your “to visit” list.
We will certainly be back.
Thank you to the Greyhound Inn for this gifted experience
