Ok don’t panic! It’s valentines day this week and if you are anything like me, you probably haven’t made plans with your significant other. Not to worry, in just a jiffy you can throw together a cute valentines day picnic and wow (or woo) your SO with your originality.
Rather then wrestle elbow to elbow with other dinners this valentines day, in over crowded restaurants, where lets be honest, your forced to eat off of a set menu at inflated prices, why not settle for the comfort of your won 4 walls. Restaurants just feel like a harassed school canteen on valentines evening. I’ve genuinely felt like I’m date-crashing in the past, being sat so uncomfortably close to other diners, where restaurants have squeezed in extra covers to meet true loves demand. Not to mention the death stare by the maître de, shot to you if you show any interest in having a coffee after your meal, they want that table back by 9pm for the second sitting! Do something different this year, save your sanity and your hard earned cash. Stop in with your beau and a bottle of Beaujolais or whatever you fancy. Trust me, it will be a lot more fun and a lot less hassle.
Set yourself up fireside as I’m planning on doing so this valentines evening, or set the dinner table for two. Buy in a few bits to eat, nothing too fancy or complicated, after all it’s about you both spending time together, not working up a sweat in the kitchen. Treat yourself to some bubbles or a bottle of your favourite tipple, a bottle of the good stuff, after all you’re celebrating d’amour.
Settle down together for the evening and enjoy one-and-others company. If a movie is your choice go ahead, but I’m opting for a little tete-a-tete. I love an opportunity to reminisce about when we met, what we did and how we have grown together over the years. He can’t escape, it’s valentines day after all.
Have a strict ban on mobile devices, these tend to be real romance killers, I am most certainly guilty. Dedicate your attention to you love, indulge them and let them indulge you back. You’ll like it, you’ll see.
And hey if you are spending this Valentines day alone, not a problem. You can grab your bestie and have a carpet picnic together all them same. Galentines was created for this. Tell you bestie just how great he or she is and savour the opportunity to spend time together.
Cheers to love in all its many sweet forms
lots of love, Amellia Mae xxx

This is so clever! I love unusual dates… I’m more of snowshoe hiking rather than sitting in a restaurant full of other couples. So this would make my night. Shame my bf lives far away and we won’t be seing each other this week.
Anyway, hope you two enjoy your time together!
Hasta pronto,
Deborah
